No Thinkpad Protection in Minnesota?
No Thinkpad Protection in Minnesota?
I was all set to buy a new t42, with 3 years Thinkpad Protection, so I found the information on it(the warranty), to see what it covers, and the first thing I saw was "This Agreement is not available in Idaho, Iowa and Minnesota."(I live in Minnesota, btw) The problem is that my parents will not get me a laptop that doesn't have accidental damage coverage. Are there any other options, I had heard some people say that you can get your homeowners insurance to cover it, but I have no idea how much that costs.
go to www.safeware.com , prices and coverage are good...

It is only for business.
But again, if we can claim that we used the laptops for any business related work, notmatter till what extend, a presentation, a document revision... well, our thinkpads are business machines too.
I don't think any one will ever have a problem as long as you say that you 'use your thinkpad for work too' and period.
What IBM, tries to avoid, and I understand why, is the insured laptops in the hands of the little ones in the house, or kitchen accidents...
The thinkpad protection is for US only too, but an agent told me that if it breaks anywhere else to bring it to the US and that is it...

X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)

Your homeowners insurance company (eg State Farm) will write you a separate policy for all perils coverage for about $30 per year.

If you file a claim, about how much impact will it have on the premium?sktn77a wrote:Your homeowners insurance company (eg State Farm) will write you a separate policy for all perils coverage for about $30 per year.
I checked the policy we have now, it's $5000 for computers on/off premises, but it doesn't cover theft.

ive been thinking about getting their coverage for my 3VU, however ive never heard anything about them really, are they reliable?Leon wrote:go to www.safeware.com , prices and coverage are good...

since you asked.... although I have no "claim" experience with this company, I like them for two reasons:
1) Unlike the IBM policy, they cover theft as well as damage;
2) Although they are Independent, IBM has a referral to them (see link below). Even though IBM states the independence of the relationship, I cannot IMAGINE not being able to straighten out a problem with a legitimate claim by playing one against the other. (e.g. "I bought the coverage only because you (IBM) had it on your site"), BTW, although the IBM link shows a company called American Bankers, they are the parent company. Call the 800 # and you'll get Safeware. What a deal..... loss/damage insurance that was referred to you by IBM (and Leon
