2379DXU/23733XU differences? and "full size keyboard?&q

#1 Post by odedby » Tue Jul 06, 2004 6:40 pm

Greetings to all.

stubbornly I am looking for a thinkpad that has flexview, 15inch, and 3 years warranty, and is within my budget (2 grand, alas...) both me and NASA,
http://www.cbd-net.com/index.php/search/show/561466

desparately looked for a new A31p (only we know what's good apparently), and I even found one, but it is sadly of seperatist french canadian persuation and is about $500 too expensive.

Anyway, kissing one ultrabay goodbye,
I happened upon these two 1.7GHZ T42's on IBM's web:

http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... p/_2379DXU
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... p/_23733XU

the first one has 60GB/15inch/flex for $2,399.00 IBM list.
the second one has same config, except for 40GB drive. But for this great advantage IBM seems to charge $250 more: $2,649.00

something must be rotten in Denemark.
may anyone have the explanation why? am I missing some caveat in the cheaper and bigger disked machine?
both are still a little above my means- I am a Canadian student. Does anyone know of any discounts obtainable by this...

By the way. The A31p's specs,
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... p/_2653h4u
as well as R50p's, are marked "full size keyboard". The T line misses this statement. does this mean IBM is hinting that they don't have full size keyboards?

Thanks

Oded

The DXU is an "express program" model. These are high-volume models that IBM discounts 10%.

If you can go over $2000 by a tad, you can't go wrong with the DXU
If you call, they should give you a lower price too. They dropped $115 right off the top for me, so I got the DXU for $2184 - I got the 1yr warranty version since American Express will double any manufactures warranty (up to one year)!
