Extremely hot power adapter.. anyone else got this?

#1 Post by tehsoul » Mon Nov 07, 2005 1:39 pm

Hi

I've got my T43p for a few months now, and I've noticed that the power adapter gets VERY hot, quite fast. I'm wondering if this is normal? My old R50p adapter (the same, afaik) never had this problem

Just got my T43 a few days ago, and yes it's extremely hot. I can't keep my hands wrapped around it for more than 20 seconds...

The brick is a "REV.D", according to the sticker.

I am not sure if this is the adapter you both have but you may want to look at this recall at ibm.com. The dates do not seem to gel ( one would think that a T4x would have an adapter manufactured in the last couple of years ) but it may be the case that you have remanufactured adapters.

Hmmmm, I don't think those would be the Adapters shipping with the Latest T43s; mine gets very warm...but never that Hot. I still have a Dell Adapter that runs so hot it actually discolored the plastic casing after a month, not to mention being heavier and bigger than my T43s adapter. Compared to these and a Compaq, this Adapter doesn't seem to get that hot at all

thanks for that link smugiri. luckily (or is it?) mine does not have the stated part number. Mine is P/N 92P108, and would seem to be fairly new as it says "Manufactured for Lenovo" near the top.

Mine also gets pretty hot, im able to hold it for a while and it doesnt burn, good on a cold day when you want to warm your hands up.. :). Its about the same temp as my Sony Vaio adapter, although the IBM one is half the size, so it doesnt bother me, as nearly all adapters i have ever had or touched have always been hot.

I notice when travelling outside the US (110 volts), the power adapter on my T40 gets much hotter when on a 220-240 volt line. Not too hot to touch, but hot.

I think too-hot-to-touch is too hot. I'd tell Lenovo to fix it.
