Differences between docking stations...?

#1 Post by OhnePfand » Tue Nov 08, 2005 2:31 am

I think aboput bying a docking station for my T43p (2668 8GH) but I not sure which.
Maybe someone can explain the differences between the Port Replicator II and the Mini-Dock. Is it right that the Port Replicator gives me some PCI slots?
That would be something I don't need.
I am just tired of plugging the power, the mouse and other usb devices in and out everytime I have to leave my desk.

Right now it seems that the Mini-Dock is the easiest and cheapest solution for me or am I wrong?
Can it be used with the T43p?

The difference bet the port replicator and the mini dock is that the mini dock is a bit larger, has 4 usb ports and comes with its own power supply. So with the mini dock, you can keep the power supply that came with your TP in your laptop bag and maybe not need a separate USB hub. Neither has a PCI slot.

The power supply for the Mini-Dock is gigantic for some reason.
I have the Port Replicator 2, and what a relief not having to plug in 7-8 cables every time.

If you want to use the adjustable stand you need to get the Essential Port Replicator.

The reason is that it needs to service the power needs of the electronics in the mini-dock (which amongst other things includes a 4 port USB hub that is truly rated to 500mA on each port) as well as the everything the normal Thinkpad power supply has to service on the Thinkpad.

Cheers,

Bill
