Have used just about every ThinkPad since the T42 days...
I went straight to the link called "Specs"
Skimmed the list to see the specs for the LCD and saw this: 14" WXGA TFT LCD (1280x768)
I lost interest instantly. My T42 is a 14" SXGA+ (1400x1050).
Why Oh Why would I want to downgrade to 1280x768?
At first glance a WIDE screen seems promising, because it would be cool to have even MORE of the screen I love! But if the only reason I get more screen is because they're SPREADING THE PIXELS OUT it's an illusory benefit.
Heck, from the point of view of my SXGA+ screen they're not only spreading the pixels out, they're also taking a lot of them away. The enticing promise of having greater screen real estate ("WIDE screen" folks) turns out to be an illusion.

Z series at Office Depot
I recently read the news:
http://news.com.com/ThinkPad+return...31238&subj=news
Like everyone here, the 699 price got everyone's attention, I couldn't find any Z series listed at Office Depot's website. The article did say that it started last sunday, but sure is anxious to find out which Z and which T is at that price or what are the Z series going on sale.
If anyone here can kindly verify the prices for everyone here is much appreciated, thank you.
I live in China, so I like to thank whoever can help me in advance.

I can almost guarantee you that no T or Z series ThinkPad will sell at the $699 pricepoint.
The CNET article is very misleading in that it implies that $1399 machines will sell for $699. This is simply not true. The R series starts at $699. It is the R series that will start out that inexpenisve at OfficeDepot, not premium models like the T and Z.
If you go to OfficeDepot.com and search for ThinkPad T43, you'll find that a machine comes up, listed at around $1500.
The CNET article is unfortunately representative of the generally poor state of the mainstream tech media. The reporters often get the facts completely wrong.

Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!
