Password Manager Failure

#1 Post by krcmd » Tue Nov 08, 2005 12:10 pm

Last night my password manager repeatedly rejected my passphrase. I checked caps key, I tried typing slowly, I tried typing with one finger. I tried cursing and swearing. Then I gave up and had dinner.

When I went back, I rebooted, and my passphrase was recognized.

Any ideas what happened?

Can low battery shut down scramble anything?

thanks

Well, it does have a period where it locks out *any* attempts to access it; usually, this occurs after three wrong tries...that is at least, a possibility

Any words on how long that period is, and if it really locks out even the Owner/Admin and not just Users?

If you download the Client Security Software Administator and User Guide, there is a table that lists the lockout times. There are too many to list here, but basically after a number of unsuccessful attempts to log in a delay is set. The greater the number of unsuccessful attempts, the greater the delay before another attempt can be made.

I've had this issue before, but only if I've just logged in, and click cancel when the CSS auth client wants me to enter in password to open the password manager. Then when I go to CSS to reload it manually it will say password retrieval failure or something. But then it will load itself properly in the background itself after a while.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem or not, but that's just my own quirky experience.

Happened again. This time I just rebooted and the problem was resolved.
Some conflict in the initail boot loading sequence?
