Keys 'sticking' in Battlefield2
Keys 'sticking' in Battlefield2
I have a T42p and have recently been bitten by the game bug- specifically Battlefield 2. Now, ever so once in a while- about 2-3 times per round- my keys will 'stick', ie I will keep running forward even though my hands are clearly off the keyboard and mouse. Or, my gun will keep shooting, even though I am not touching my mouse.
I've checked the 'Accessibility options' and the 'StickyKeys', 'FilterKeys', 'ToggleKeys' are all checked off. The shortcut keys are all unchecked.
Any ideas what gives?
Thanks!

I have encountered much the same problem; except I don't play BF2 on my T43. I have had it happen to me in HL2 primarily, and even way back in HL. As near as I could tell, it was an issue, although not major, with the game...especially during large multiplayer events. In particular, it has to do with what is handling the Key Commands...Most games now use DirectInput, which is far superior to the default Windows Key event manager (I know, I have programmed with it) Both, however, have their issues. I don't really think it is a Problem with your T42p...unless you are noticing Keys sticking in other applications (also, check how much memory is available when the "Keys Stick" could be simply a memory backup/bottleneck issue that occurs from time to time)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

The same thing happens to me but in UT2k4, the forward key or the fire key is stuck even my hands are off the keyboard.

Try this.
While I have not experienced this problem myself, may I suggets that you try a simple solution before giving up. You can change the default repeat rate on the keyboard.
Go Control Panel -> Keyboard
Try speeding it up OR slowing it down ( either one could potentially work!! ) and see if one of the two does the trick.

Steve
confirmed that behavior in BF2. Will try that repeat rate keyboard setting

can you post a screenshot of what your settings look like?smugiri wrote:While I have not experienced this problem myself, may I suggets that you try a simple solution before giving up. You can change the default repeat rate on the keyboard.

Found the fix!
Here's the fix:

to summarize:
I just turned of 'EAX' (or whatever it is) and [edit: needed to change one more setting for sound. set the 'device type to be 'hardware''] that's it. Problem no more!

to summarize:
These settings (for BF2) are available under 'options > audio'Make sure the EAX/X-Fi settings are set correctly for your soundcard, as well as the settings on the card's own control panel.

Hey, my exact question. Anyone got any ideas?deviousalex wrote:just out of curiosity, does anyone have any benchmarks for games like BF2/HL2/etc on a thinkpad t43 with 64mb radeon x300? i haven't installed any games on mine yet because i don't want to bug it up with stuff that won't run well.
