t40/2373 memory upgrade problem

Hi all,

I bought a micron 1gb RAM DDR pc2100 (MT18VDDF12872HG-265) from ebay. I thought that ECC is optional. The item description says it can work with non-ECC support mainboard. My laptop is T40/2373. The new ram is incompatible with my laptop. I am wondering how we know if this is a h/w problem or incompatibility issue!. Actually, when I installed this module only, the machine beeps a four or five times and it doesn't boot up. If this is incompatible issue, I have to resell it since this cannot be returned. Hew...

The intel 855PM chipset of your motherboard doesnt support ECC. You cannot use ECC memory with your Thinkpad T40. Should had asked here first before buying it

Oh, BTW
Let me ask one more question.
So does motherboard which can support ECC feature only work with this RAM module? Have you heard of any laptop having ECC feature? I am curious if this product is designed for laptop or not.

ECC Rams are normally configured for Server Grade machines. I suppose a server grade laptop can have a compatible board for it.
