How to delete a dual boot of XP on C drive

#1 Post by scanyon2 » Tue Nov 08, 2005 4:19 pm

Ok, have a T22 that came with W2K, I installed XP Pro but I guess didn't do it right, because I ended up with a dual boot system. Just now had to reinstall XP pro due to some random shutdown problems. It installed over the W2K, but now I have 2 XP loaded on C drive and I'm running out of space. Partition Magic won't resize the C drive for me. Is there an easy way to get rid of one of the XP loads ?

Thanks

Is there a reason you can't just format the drive and do a fresh install of XP? It seems that would be the simplest thing to do.

Was just hoping to avoid having to reload all the programs

Since you've got nothing to lose, just try deleting the directories with XP other than the default directory (C:\windows), and then run an XP restore.

WARNING: I don't know if this will work, you could render the system inoperable in which case you'd have to do a fresh install.

You should have multiple windows directories....you can try deleteing but my advice would be back up and wipe then have a clean install....

I use partition commander, it has many tools for partitioning, you could delete one partition and repair the mbr. Then add the free space back to the other xp partition. Well worth the 39.00 I paid for it a couple years ago.

Had to edit this due to misread of original post.
