T40 doesn't boot

#1 Post by Dex » Wed Nov 09, 2005 10:38 am

I have a T40 2373-7CU, it worked fine until someone tampered with it. Now when it boots, it comes with a cylinder & padlock symbol which seems to be some password lock. How can resolve this?

You have what appears to be the Power-On password set. Try to find out what the tamperer might have used for a password. AFAIK the password can only be 7 characters long.

I have mine set to a 4 character password, so it can be shorter.

bad news, if its the system password you need that or you wont be able to use the laptop again :(. BTW, take out the hard drive and see if you still get the password prompt :?

You are right. What I meant to say was the maximum password length is 7 characters. I must admit, I was not clear about this.
