770 motherboard upgrades?

#1 Post by pto892 » Thu Nov 10, 2005 4:51 pm

OK, so I've read through the sticky on 770 upgrades, and I've searched for posts on this topic, but I would like to get it correct before I try to do it. I have a 770-the earlier 9548 model with the Pentium 233mmx processor. Assuming I want to swap out the motherboard for one that uses a PII processor, what should I be looking for? Would any board from a 770E/770ED model work? What about the boards from the 770Z/770Z series? Ideally, I would like to use a board that uses a MMC-2 type chip but obviously it must fit before this is feasible. I would like to use Windows 2000 on it (it's already on it, and a fresh install is not a problem), plus I would like to reuse as much as possible (DVD, DEVA card, and so forth). What else would have to be replaced? Suggestions/caveats (and horror stories) are appreciated, and thanks in advance.
