Hmmm,My T43's fan stay on High speed and it can't slow down

#1 Post by Eugene » Sat Nov 12, 2005 5:38 am

When My cpu is at 44 C the fan is turn on and working at first level. When the CPU is at 49C and the fan is at second level. But, When cpu's temp goes down 43C the fan always stay on second level
Is it a problem? Thinks!

Yes it is a problem. But none that IBM/Lenovo would fix. My T41p also has it, as well as all other T40, T41, T42, T43, R50, R51, R52 except the R50e. Unbelievable, but the cheapest model DOES NOT HAVE IT!!!

try changing the power scheme when that happens, helps on mine.
doens't matter from which to which.

dear danny
yea,i di this when the problem happens.
In my opinion the fan speed slow down should be follow cpu temp goes down.

I dont see that on my machine and it was manufactured in mid Oct. Maybe Lenovo fixed the issue in their new embedded controller / BIOS update

It is most likely what danny said; although I do think that the Temperature Control System is the one that is behind this, it does seem to be well optimized for me in most cases, but then again, it does appear to have a *very* rapid PD response. Combine that with a large settling time, and you would get similar behavior to what some people are experiencing. It could be that IBM was a tad bit over-zealous in designing the Fan to quickly change the temperature as lowering the temperature by small increments rapidly seems to be its biggest goal, its next biggest goal is keeping that trend, no matter what. :)

My T42p does not have the above described fan problem. Also, even when blowing pretty hard, it is not very loud.

Try change from balance all to maximize performance, and when the temp below 49C, re-select this scheme, it might help.

Thinks all! A Taiwanese tell me samething about this porblem:
When the cpu temp go down to 40 C,the fan will slow down to 2ed level
When the cpu temp go down to 38 C,the fan will stop.
And,I hope he's right.

Strange, I know that my Fan nothces down to level 1 when the Temperature gets below 52 Degrees; then the Fan spools down near 45 Degrees.... :?
