Question about installing a new HDD

#1 Post by jdzbox » Sat Nov 12, 2005 11:15 am

Hi all..
I'm planing on the purchase a T43 and getting it with a 40G HDD so that I can replace it with 100G 7200rpm Hitachi HDD. I heard that it spits our 2010 error,,, but it is still usable right?
So the question is.. how do I move the files from the 40G HDD to the new HDD? Can I just make a Recovery disk on to a DVD and pull the 40G HDD out and put the new 100G HDD in then.. just use the Revovery disk? Or do I need to do perform other measures like cloning the HDD.. HOw do you do that...?
Can anyone explain it step by step for the newb?
BTW.. how difference in performance would I get if I go for a 100G 5400rpm HDD instead of 100G 7200rpm HDD?

Thanks

I think you could use the bios 1.02 fix 2010 error.
And, if you want build a HPA on your new HDD,you can use the Recovery CDs(7 CDs edition)

There have been some experiences with some 100G 7200RPM HDDs that actually don't seem to give the 2010 Error for one reason or another.

The answer is yes, you just have to make the recovery CDs, put your hard drive in, and boot with your recovery CD's to create the recovery partition on your new drive. It is very simple just follow the prompts. Good luck.

No, must recovery cds.
You could use " Resuce & Recovery" to make these Recovery CDs

Oh, If you have a Dvd-R,you could put Hpa into a DVD. Then you could use it to build a new HPA on your new HDD, and the result is the same as use 7cds. But, the Recovery DVD that Lenovo sells only could restore OS,

I am not sure if you can create the image on a DVD from your R&R environment. I have only used the recovery CDs.

You can do it with DVD.
Either insert 2 dvd-r discs to write (1st for the program - 2nd for the files) or first a cd-r for the program and then a dvd-r for the files.

There you go, that will save a lot of hassle with inserting all those CDs.

Yeap, that's exactly what I did and it works fine. CD-R for the startup and DVD+/-R for the rest.
