T42 repair experience

#1 Post by bluejamul » Sun Nov 13, 2005 11:25 am

I purchased a used T42 a few months ago that apparently had the service partition removed. I called IBM on a Tuesday night from the hills of San Diego. Wednesday afternoon there was a shipping box on my doorstep. Thursday it was shipped prepaid by IBM via DHL. Monday afternoon my T42 arrived with a complete reimage, all at no cost. Support was friendly. I was very satisified. YMMV.

If they just reimaged... you got the short end of that deal.

Should have mailed you some restore CD's (they typically arrive the next day), so you can do it yourself... much faster.

It is great that they responded so quick, I have had generally great service from IBM and so far Lenovo. It is kind of weird that they just did not send you the CDs because that would have saved them from having to send the box and then send your machine back. Was anything else wrong with the machine?

At least now that they reimaged you it is possible to burn a set of recovery cd's. Do it now.

Well, I tried to make the recovery CDs myself (Create recovery CDs) but no dice, I got an error message. I have uninstalled all the R&R stuff and used BootIt NG to image the drive to an external HD. From there I plan on burning the image to CDs with one of the utilities offered by TeraByte Unlimited (makers of BING). I may end up just deleting the recovery partition then.

I wasn't able to burn initially either. Called, and they mailed me the CD's (called in the afternoon, and it was at my door early the next morning).
