Dual Boot Screen Options on T42

#1 Post by gg3761 » Mon Nov 14, 2005 1:18 am

I'm running XP Pro on my T-42. All the latest updates. At some point i have picked up 2 different booting options. One says XP Pro. The other says XP Pro (bootscreen). They both boot the computer fine. Two Questions.
First. Where did the one that says XP Pro (bootscreen) come from? Second. How do i get rid of it? This thing may have popped up at around the last bios install.
Thanks

Im not sure where it came from, sorry cant help you there, but i do know how to get rid of it.

Open the Boot.ini file in Notepad. This file is located in C:\ and is hidden and a operating system file, so you need to show them to find it by adjusting the Tools->Folder Options->View settings.

You should see two lines in this file starting with "multi....", with the names as you mentioned below, just delete the line with (bootscreen) in it. When there is just one option in this file the computer will boot without asking which system.

ControlPanel -> System -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery -> System Startup groupbox -> Edit button.

I think it comes from "styleXP", a software that tweaks XP visual style.
