bootup blue screen and mcafee 8.0i

#1 Post by jsaper2001 » Mon Nov 14, 2005 12:42 pm

I looked for this issue and didn't find it, so it doesn't appear to be a repost.
i have had my laptop for a few months now - a t43p. A week or so ago when the laptop was booting it would blue screen (something like NON PAGE AREA) just as mcafee was appearing to load the system try icon and files. this happened 4-5 times i tried to reboot. I unistalled mcafee and the system is tip top. One of the annoying things about this problem is that macfee requires a fully loaded non safemode os in memory in order to uninsatall it. but it was happening, as i said at bootup, minimising the oppertunties to be rid of macfee.
I just wondered if anyone has found this. I have heard that XP has an issue like this with some antivirus products. Is there a work around to allow using mcafee or any other product? I should say that I have ran programs like tunexp, vopt v7 and sys internals' page defrag, running only the features that didn't appear to have serious ramifcations.
I mention this in the event that any of these products moved app files to an area of hard disk xp or IBM apps, likes to reseve. Obviously i had been hoping to speed up the boot time.

Thanks for your time -its a good site.

J

PS I suppse this is s a second topic, but i was wondering if there had been a t4* series crib sheet written like that of the guy black viper? He used to host a general XP tuning guide for disabling redundant services dependig on situ.

I had this exact problems... McAfee 8.0i Corp. was making issues with our T43... I downloaded a tool on symantec's website called (Symantec Removal Tool) It basically remove anything from them even in the registry and then all the problems were gone !!
