standby and hibernate

i've read all the search results, but did not find exactly what i was looking for.

i have this problem where apparently my computer gets confused when i use standby and hibernate too much in a day. after standby or hibernate, the computer takes a while to load. the hd is not moving in both cases.

so my Q is ...is there a potential hd issue that needs a replacement? ie, i have a feeling something is wrong with hd since it takes too long to come online.


btw, if i use specifically only standby or hibernate, then the problem is resolved. i just use them interchangebly if i need to change room (standby) or need to conserve battery for a long campus walk (hibernate).
