CD-RW for T42

I need to upgrade my dvd rom to cd-rw. What is the best way to go about this task. Should I get a 'Ultrabay Slim' from Lenovo and do a self-install. Is it difficult..and how about drivers? How reliable are these cd-rw from Lenovo? Or should I get a 'third party' external cd-rw..? Need help....Thanks!!
