T30 recovery CD needed

#1 Post by Timster2005 » Tue Nov 15, 2005 1:10 pm

Hi All,
newbee here.

I've got hold of a T30-2366 with a dead hard drive, and have successfully got a new hard drive for it. I've installed XP from an OEM WinXP CD, but the registration key won't work. T30 works perfectly otherwise.

From reading other posts, my guess is this is because the registration key on the bottom of the laptop is not valid for an OEM WinXP CD from a desktop. Is this correct? Any way round it?

From reading further it seems I may need to get some recovery CD's. I've seen these on ebay+elsewhere for the T30, but are these CD's generic for all T30s, or do I need to be careful with the model (2366), etc?

thanks for any advice, this forum is a fanstastic!

Timster, probably the best idea would be to go ahead and get the recovery CD's that way you will have a set. The set I have for my t42 from IBM have the various models on the label that they work for. You might want to get the version number of the CD's from the IBM web site and see if the ones you are getting from ebay or wherever are compatible. I believe they should cover your model but I can not say with absolute certainty. I think they are around 50 bucks from IBM. Wish I could help you out but I have no CD's for my T30 either just the partition and a spare HD. I have not seen an option in the T30 to make the CD's.

I may have the T30 recovery disks...I can check when I get home on Friday.

If I do, I can make a copy and send it to you for the cost of shipping (plus paypal fees if you use paypal).

PM me if interested.

EDIT: Unfortunately, I checked, and I do not have the CDs.

Hi guys,
thanks for the advice...it seems I'll be getting the recovery CDs from somewhere then.

tfflivemb2, thanks for your kind offer. Seeing that I'm in the UK, postage will be a bit slow, so I'll try to source the disks here. If I have no luck I may come back to you.

Watch this space for progress!

Cheers, Timster

Great News!

I got the T30 disks off ebay within 1 day, got WinXP installed in less than 1hr, with no activation problems. Spent about 2 hours flapping about getting XP SP2 and Thinkpad driver updates from Levono installed.

Everything's looking rosy now.

Cheers, Timster.
