A good laptop bag for $15

#1 Post by bibendum » Thu Nov 17, 2005 10:16 am

Just got this bag yesterday, $15 delivered.

http://www.ebags.com/sumdex/compact_com ... elid=42698

It's a basic no-frills bag, a little padding but nothing too over the top, and fits the X40 nicely even with the extended battery.

Looks like the price is back up to $19.99. I was tempted to buy this but I see a Waterfield in the horizon, and thought this would get no use if I bought a Waterfield down the road. Glad you are happy with it.

All of you are wrong sholder bag / laptop bag = risk.

Its been said time and time again. I dont have an X series laptop, but i'm getting one before i head off to grad school. And i would NEVER put my laptop in a shoulder bag / laptop bag. Petty thieves look for that kinda bag wherever you are. Slip off to get your 5-6dollar cup of coffee and it really doesnt take much.

Recently I bought a samsonite bag for my t42. Comes built in with a sleeve like padding (neoprene of course) and extra padding on the back, as well as front to prevent from getting crushed by books. But it LOOKS like a backpack and is actually used like one quite often.

Samsonite bag cost me 20bucks...Think smarter, enjoy happier.

Sure you shouldn't put your laptop in a laptop bag for security reasons but it's fine putting it in a briefcase like this, IMO:

Not only that but if you plan on leaving your laptop unguarded like that you're pretty much asking for it to be stolen.

problem with shoulder bags is that they kill your one shoulder. Also when you are moving around the city , it tends to swing around and smack stuff. At first you will take caution to this but eventually you will forget it is in your bag and it will be bouncing all over the place

If you're really worried about your shoulder there are those rolling laptop bags.

I rotate between two:

1. Lowepro Madison 1200 (discontinued), but new one is roughly the same (http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Noteboo ... _1200.aspx). This one particularly good for international travel.

2. STM Small Sphere backpack - nice for daily commutes (walking) to and from the office, but have also been on a few round-the-world trips with it. (http://www.stmbags.com.au/smallsphere - mine isn't quite so 'grey')

InCase

#16 Post by lugdunum » Sat Nov 19, 2005 1:14 pm

someone else mentioned the InCase sleeve/bag, carried in Apple stores. It fits my X32 perfectly and I like it because it goes 3 ways.......a sleeve, or with handles (that recede into the sides when it's just a sleeve), or it has a padded strap for carrying on the shoulder. Waterfield charged extra for all the add-ons, the InCase was $50 for the sleeve and the strap included. I intend to carry it in a briefcase, but like the option of carrying it as a stand-alone bag.
That "small sphere bag" mentioned in the above post looks interesting. Anyone else have one?

If you're getting a dead shoulder from a 12" laptop bag holding a 2.7 lb computer, you probably want to work some more exercise into your schedule.

At college, if I were going to steal something, I'd steal the pizza before the laptop.

So, one would take the pizza, open it, think, "[censored], a laptop. Oh, well, at least I've got a laptop..."
