ThinkPad 600X - 800MHz, 576MB - any interest?

#1 Post by Edward Mendelson » Thu Nov 17, 2005 2:22 pm

This is just a prelimary note about a machine that I won't be able to pack up for sale until December, but I wanted to find out whether anyone was interested enough to make it worthwhile to pack it up in the first place. Here are the details:

ThinkPad 600X, originally 650MHz, upgraded to 800MHz (the removed 650MHz CPU is included in case you want it); 576MB RAM; original 12GB hard disk. Machine is in used but very good condition, and never been taken outdoors for the past three years (since I bought it used).

The HDD has a fully-working new installation of Ubuntu 5.10 on it, modified only to install the program that gives visual feedback for the Fn buttons and to enable sleep and hibernation. (Windows 2000 is probably better for this machine, but Ubuntu works very nicely.)

Also the AC power adapter, the original printed manual, TV-out cable, maybe some other things if I find them. All passwords and personalization have been completely cleared - no surprise passwords anywhere.

Also these drives for the drive bay:

DVD drive;
CD drive;
Internal floppy drive (and the exernal case and cable that let you use the floppy and an optical drive at the same time);
Second hard disk adapter;
Zip 100 drive;
UltraBay second battery (new in sealed box).

Plus the Portable UltraBay (external drive case that you plug in via a PC Card and use with the CD/DVD, Zip, or 2nd HDD adapter).

Also three PC cards:
3Com PC card ethernet card (works with the Ubuntu install)
Lucent 802.11b PC card (works with the Ubuntu install)
IBM PC Card XJack modem (works with the Ubuntu install)

The modem card is included because this machine originally shipped without the internal modem (there's a little removable door covering the modem port, and you can easily buy and install an internal modem if you want one).

The internal battery holds a charge for a few minutes but is very old and should be replaced. I've used this machine with an AC power supply or dock since I've had it.

If this is something that might be of interest, please let me know. There's a lot of things here, so a price around $600 seems in the reasonable range.
