X3 Dock?

#1 Post by lugdunum » Fri Nov 18, 2005 12:04 pm

I just received my new X32 and am delighted with it. I ordered the model with the dock and the CD-RW/DVD. The dock is hugely chunky and I'm not sure what exactly, besides the bay for the CD-RW/DVD drive, it gives me. It seems it repeats the same peripherals as are on the X32 anyway. I should look further, but can anyone tell me what I'm getting with the dock that I wouldn't have had I bought an external CD-RW/DVD drive? The X32 is my only computer.
Otherwise, the X32 is great, looks almost like a toy compared to my A21.

It gives you VERSATILITY that you couldn't normally get with just an external cd/dvd writer:

With the x32 attached...

1) you can add an ADDITIONAL battery giving you many more hours of battery life;

2) you get the convenience of a BUILT-IN burner when you're on the road;

3) you get TWO stereo speakers;

Otherwise, you basically get a port replicator which is VERY USEFUL.

yeah, but IBM does not make a piggyback battery for the X31/X32s like they do for the X30s, which would have been super-useful. Carrying a hefty Ultrabase for the 10 hour travel kind of negates the point of carrying a slim machine in the first place.
Proxima - X31 (2672-C2U)
Pegasus - X31 (2672-CXU)
Taurus - X24 (2662-MQU)
Nova - X41 Tablet (1869-CSU)

Essentially, I agree with the above comments. I wouldn't carry the Ultradock with me on long plane trips but having it gives me the OPTION of doing so if I really needed to.

In reality, for most situations, I would just buy another battery as a spare. I never really liked IBM's extended batteries as I don't like anything sticking out the back; it's as if it was an afterthought and not part of the design.

Better not tell that to my X32, which is happily running for 10+ hours with its piggyback battery attached.

Hm. It works with the X30 series extended battery? If it does, I am SO buying one.

All X30-series accessories work on all X30 series computers. X30 series means X30, X31 and X32.

It all works.
