#1 Post by Hrvig » Fri Nov 18, 2005 6:07 pm

I've got a problem here.
My security is switched on and I cant switch it off. It seems to slow my system by a lot.
Does anyone know what to do?
Check this www.hrvig.dk, to see my problem!

first, your link does not work..
second, you can turn the security chip off in the bios setup..

Security Chip

#4 Post by K0LO » Tue Nov 22, 2005 3:08 pm

Just to be specific, I found that if the Security Chip was enabled on my X41T, it added 40 seconds to the boot time. That's just unacceptable.

If you're not keeping company secrets on your PC, you might want to disable this in the BIOS. The first time you reboot after disabling, if you have the Rescue and Recovery app installed, you will get a nag prompt asking if you REALLY want to disable the security chip. Answer YES.

bad link, but fixable. the website it slooooooooooow i couldn't see the pic but know what you are talking about

others already chimed in on a solution (go to bios and disable)

i just wanted to add that i have NOT experienced a 40sec increase in bootup time (i use the security chip all the time both with bootup and hibernate). i switched it off and timed it and i get same bootup time. i do not know what would be causing k0lo's 40sec increase in bootup (maybe a tablet thing?)

the real 'slow' part of my bootup is when windows freezes up the taskbar after logging in while it activates the LAN and connects. (happens even with my other computers)

Forgot to mention one step -- after disabling the security chip in the BIOS, also remove the registry key "cssauth" at: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

This authorization routine is loaded at startup and is responsible for the delay.

For your other 'slow' bootup task (activating the LAN), are you using IBM Access Connections? If so, have you tried disabling the "Switch Wireless Location Profiles Automatically" feature? This "feature" is a real pig. It can add another 30 - 60 seconds to your boot time. Even better yet, disable Access Connections completely by right-clicking on its taskbar icon and choosing "Exit". If you disable it you'll have to switch location profiles manually (using the Fn+F5 key combination), but doing so can trim another 15 seconds off your boot time.
