CDRW/DVD freezes in XP on TP 600E(SD-R2412)

Hi All:
Picked up a Toshiba SD-R2412 CDRW/DVD a few days ago.
I am running XP. When I insert a CD into the drive my windows XP freezes up. Not sure what is going on. I have latest bios etc..
Whats weird is when I put it in my TP 600 it seems to run fine (win 98)..Only on my 600E w/ XP that it freezes up.
I loaded ASPI drivers (and removed). Newest firmware...maybe a XP thing?
Would reloading XP w/ this new drive make a difference?
