Active protection

#1 Post by dlichterman » Tue Nov 22, 2005 12:52 am

Ok, so my R50 only has a 30gig HD, of which 5 is taken by the recovery partition.....

I would like to replace the HD, but am worried about the active protection system which I need since it has saved me twice.....

Does the system work with any HD or will it only work with certain hard drives? If it is not system specific.........80GB here I come!!!

Yeah, the accellerometer or whatever is on the sysboard, so you can plug any hdd the system will support in it and it'll manage it.

I was actually able to visually see active protection in action by connecting a laptop IDE cable to the HDD controller and to a custom made transparent hdd from hitachi. You could move the hdd around all you wanted (not that that's recommended) and nothing would happen. But if you started rocking the ThinkPad around, you could see the heads park through the transparent hdd cover. Very cool.
