Z60t with X600 a myth?

#1 Post by dejakenth » Tue Nov 22, 2005 4:11 am

Came across this newspaper advertisment from Lenovo:

(will type what's in the Ad)

THINK EXPRESS MODEL
2531A11

------------------------------------------------------

after waiting for it to come out and checking information in the Internet it would seem that there was a typographical error in the Advertisement. The correct model should have been Z60m in the printed adverstisement.

Anyways, am I right in assuming that it is a Z60m mislabeled as Z60t. Or is there a Z60t with the said specs in the works. I hope those guys in LENOVO realize that a lot of people who may want to get a z-Series would want a Z60t unit w/ a discrete video card (ATI Radeon X600 or better).

Paging LENOVO, if anyone from LENOVO is reading posts here, any comments? :)

yeah, i realized this later on. i sure hope that LENOVO backtracks and comes out w/ a z60t variant w/ X600 video card. i'm sure a number of ibm users would welcome this as well.

Actually, you can replace any ATI graphics chip with a newer one. ATI has the so called Flexfit technology, which is a standard socket for any ATI mobile chip. Configuration is just by the driver. This allows the manufacturer to decide on the GPU by the last moment or have better flexibility for configurations.

To hell with the notebook manufacturer who spare the few cents on the socket and solder the chip directly on the motherboard. Lenovo does the same crap!

I mean, if you can afford a few cents on the Pentium socket, why not on the ATI chip?

I even considered buying a used T4x board on eBay, rip out the Radeon 7500 and put in a 9600 or 9700. Same on the X300/X600.

Technically a piece of cake
