Clean Install What should I keep?

#1 Post by kuma » Tue Nov 22, 2005 5:56 pm

What programs are useful to keep for my new T42 2373H6U? I have not yet installed anything on to it and it shipped with XP home. I have a upgrade cd of XP pro that I am going to install, or try.
Any ideas on what I don't need that came installed on my computer?

Thanks.

I responded to this post in your other thread, but now I am confused...is this an "upgrade" CD or a Full Version CD of XP Pro?

I'm confused as well, since I'm a student at the Unv. of Minnesota, I was able to buy a XP Pro for $5, I ordered my laptop with Home to save $70. The cd I just got is an "upgrade" meaning that I have to have the serial number from my Home CD, inorder to load XP Pro. I think so I can't just buy the Pro and load it onto a new computer without an operating system.

Does this make sense?
T42 -2373H6U
1 gig Ram
60 gig 7200rpm HD
DVD-Burner

My understanding is that if the XP-pro is SP1 and the one Home ed. is SP2, then you won't be able to upgrade. You can upgrade from 1 to 2 or 2 to 2 however.
