Anyone tried AC 4.0 yet?

#1 Post by DavidNZ » Wed Nov 23, 2005 2:23 am

I downloaded the installer and it's sitting on my desktop. Looking at me. Am a little scared to try.

Anyone else?

It works. The next thing is that it has a very different interface (simpler). If you are technically inclined (I am) and reasonably understand Access Connections (I reasonably understand it), then the new version is missing options to set and control it.

For example, 3.81 and prior (for a bit) had a Saved Ports concept. I don't know if I truly needed that because it was a subdivision of the regular profiles. But up to 3.81, it worked and let you name each port. The new version eliminates the naming, just ties the MAC ports to my Default Wired Connection, and now as I just moved again, did not record my currernt client. So, it has two saved ports, where I have now been at three. And the first saved port is name for the default connection and the second saved port has no name. Either dump the whole thing, or do it right (e.g., 3.81)

You cannot now get to Profiles from the main screen, rather you have to launch Profile Manager and edit from there. The Tabbed interface has given way to fewer tabs and more complexity in each tab.

So, very different, and for me, less likeable, but it works and I am using it. ... JD Hurst

installed it on my X40. Seems to work fine. I quite like the new layout. Seems stable enough.

My software installer [3.15.0510] is not 'offerring AC4 as an option when I run it...[currently running ac3.81]...

I'm seeing x40's & a t43 have posted here, so is it possible that ac4.0 is not correct for my t41?

Did 'you all' use the softwre installer? ...or an access connections page?

Edit: OK, I found the page;http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ml#systems...
t41 is listed...still curious, is anyone getting ac4.0 through their software installer?
Just read the thread in T4x...apparently ac4.0 has not made it to swinstllr yet...

I am also using software installer version 3.15.0510 and Access Connections 3.81 and Access Connections 4.0 was also not detected.

For whatever reason, AC 4.0 is not yet on the T4x "Driver Matrix" pages as yet. See.....

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46258

The various T4x Driver Matrix pages still point to AC 3.81, with a "one line" reference on the 3.81 page which further points to AC 4.0 now being available for download.

I expect that Software Installer will not offer AC 4.0 as an update until the Driver Matrix pages are updated.

I have manually downloaded AC 4.0 and am very happy with it.

Cheers,

Bill
