T22 charging system

#1 Post by jana_kazakh » Wed Nov 23, 2005 11:04 am

Now that I've found this board, I've got a few other questions. The first is as follows:

I have a T22 system in storage, which works perfectly except for the fact that the charging circuitry does not work in it. The system will run off battery power, but will not charge any batteries attached to it nor run off the mains without any batteries installed. All my mains adapters are known working, with my T23. It does not charge in a port replicator or docking station (power through the docking connector) either.

The charging circuit was fried when the power plug was plugged in with the wrong polarity.

The Question: Does anyone know what/where the blown item on the motherboard may be, e.g. a mosfet, fuse, or pcb component?

Many thanks in advance,

Geraint Rowlands

I have same kind of problem with T23. My Thinkpad T23 is not charging battery at all. Battery is tested with other machine and it is OK.

Battery led is burning at yellow and it looks like it is charging but nothing happens. Battery MaxiMiser shows also that battery is under charging but the Current field is totally empty, 0.00A.

If I put charged battery on it, I can use the machine without AC.

Is there some kind of circuit burned or what? Is there any other solutions to fix the problem except for change motherboard? Warranty has ended a few months ago.

You should be able to get back to normal by replacing the power supply board, download the hardware maintenance manual for your model and see if you are up to installing it. I've done it with a couple of older models and itf you are fairly tech oriented you may not have a huge problem. Should be able to order one from IBM.

EDIT: I looked in the Hardware Maint Manual for this model and it looks to me like the power supply is unfortunately part of the system board.
