E7k100 in t40?
E7k100 in t40?
Is the E7K100 drive series compatible with a t40 (2378CU1)?
Thanks,
Marko
Thanks,
Marko
Travelstar E7K100 supports both PATA and SATA inferface
So the PATA model will work, the SATA wont on a T40
Just remember to update your embedded controller to 3.04 and your bios to version 3.19

E7K100
The PATA version of at E7K100 will certainly be compatible with the T4X series that have PATA interface. (It may generate the often mentioned messages as may the 7K100 depending on the model you have. Other may have more accurate info than I. I believe its model T43 and above that will generate the boot bios errror.
However - The E7K100 lacks the ability of advanced powersaving. Its more robust concerning 24-7-365 usage, but will consume much more power. Much more power will mean much more fan-noise, so its not just a question about batterylife ...

In terms of performance loss...I was wondering if ATA one will produce noticeable slower results than an SATA one when working with it? Obviously, having a t40 I have no choice...purely a curiousity question....
Also, someone here said the E7k100 doesn't have advanced power saving...Does the 7k100 have it?
Thanks,
Marko
Appreciate all your response...i'm looking to upgrade my 30 gb drive...not sure if I should go with 60 or upwards to 80 maybe even 100...although its pricey...I would like a 7200 rpm drive...although if advised against I will look into the 5k100 series.
Cheers and adios

I've been using an E series 40 gig 7200 rpm drive in my laptop for well over a year with no issues at all...YMMV.
