USB 2.0 doesn't recognize my iPod!

#1 Post by thinkpadfreak » Fri Nov 25, 2005 2:43 pm

My T40 (2373-82U) refuses to recognize my 4th gen iPod. I've tried everything in the book and it still refuses to recognize it. Only time it sees my iPod is when I uninstall the enhanced USB 2.0 driver from Device Manager. Every other 2.0 devices I own works perfectly except for my iPod...and I know there's nothing wrong with my iPod because I've tried it on my friend's T40 (exact same model-2373-82U) and it worked flawlessly. Any ideas???...Im going nuts over here.

This may sound dumb, but try plugging the usb cable into the T40 very quickly (just jab it into the slot). I have a USB mouse that doesn't get recognized in the top port unless you do that.

iPod Hard Reset

#3 Post by eakaplan » Fri Nov 25, 2005 6:22 pm

I had this problem too when I initially set up a 4G iPod with my T40. After a frustrating process, the solution was to:

- install the iPod updater on the T40
- shut down the T40
- perform a hard reset of the iPod (hold down the center button and the menu (up) button on the scroll wheel) until the screen briefly blanks and then a dark apple logo appears
- when the iPod has returned to its full menu, plug it into the powered down laptop
- boot the laptop
- run the iPod updater

Good luck. I hope this works for you.
