FN + F2, F8, F9 may work on your T4x...

#1 Post by davidspalding » Fri Nov 25, 2005 2:52 pm

The new Z-series keyboards have some extra FN markings on the function keys, as well as the arrow keys for CD/DVD-drive control.

Depending on your firmware and driver level, these combos may work for you. A nice little bonus.

FN + F2 => Quick lock computer utility *
FN + F8 => UltraNav device settings utility
FN + F9 => Easy Eject utility

* Almost as easy as WIN + L for quick locking your screen, easier than CTRL + ALT + DEL, K. Check the settings though, this shortcut can also disconnect your network connections and enable the Windows firewall.

Thanks for the updates! It works on my T43!
One thing that I've noted was that they worked on the new softwware installs (the prompts were all with the new logos).

So I pretty much guess it's more on the software than anything else?

These FN key shortcuts also works with the old software, it's just that they don't seem to be documented, and the keys don't have those blue icons telling what they are.

Cool. I have a T42 and I never realized those key combinations existed. 8)

Strange, but on my T43P, 2668-Q2U, only FN + F9 works.

all the functions seem to be working on my T42. Also, I think i remember seeing the Fn+F9 combination somewhere else (manual or something), i've been using it since i got the computer (july 04).

Interesting, Kenr. I've got a 2668 as well, though not as regal as yours. ;) Maybe ... you don't have the latest versions of the utilities? Have you run the Keyboard Customizer Utility? It might indicate if you have those combos, in the "external keyboard" tab. Just a thought.

Oddly enough, the full Fn+ suite works flawlessly on my T41 (2379) as well.

Thanks, never knew about Fn-F2, though less comfortable than binding your Access IBM key to lock windows. Weird that it asks what I wish to lock, will there be any other options, like lock your coworker's computer? ;)
