Thinklight on X40

Is this LED white or yellow. I saw the review on C|Net and it looked yellow. I hope this isn't the case.

Would anyone care to comment on which color LED is better and easier on the eyes, yellow or white?

I can answer that as well as my old R32 had white. I prefer the yellow as it seems a bit softer, if that makes any sense.

Well do you have any pics? And do you really think the amber light is better?

I think a white led is better. I prefer it as my TP A21 has it. The amber color makes the eyes struggle a bit more when looking at the keys. With the white led, this isn't the case... and it's not like you're gonna stare directly at the light, so it doesn't hurt your eyes. And the LCD is brighter then the light hitting the keyboard from the white led anyways.

Like DavidNZ I like the yellow because it isnt' as harsh as white. Though those that can't stand yellow lights in their home (Personally, I can't) might not like it, though I don't mind.

ldbobby raises a point I didn't consider with my first response. I tend to not look at the keys when I type, but if I need to enact some special combination of keys (for whatever reason), i generally have to look down to ensure I get it right. That said, I've found the amber light to be great. Amber light is generally quite soft - in some French Caribbean islands you still see lots of cars at night with amber lights. Quite bright, but not, as budder rightly points out, nearly as harsh.

Something tells me, however, that if you're not happy with your amber light, IBM might be able to swap it with a white one. Ask them to consider it as a warranty repair! :)
