RPC1 Firmware Upgrade Available for T42

#1 Post by nichihan » Sun Nov 27, 2005 12:37 pm

For those who do not already have it, the RPC1 upgrade/flash is now available at http://tdb.rpc1.org/ . This upgrade will allow you to watch DVDs from anywhere in the world and not be limited to a region-change counter (you can only change it 5 times before the flash). I've tested the firmware and it works perfectly. Huge props to TDB for hooking up us T42ers.

Which drive are you talking about? The T4X typically has a Matshita drive in it. To date I know of no RPC1 firmware upgrade for these 9.5mm drivers. Please advise.

Sorry, I'm talking about the LG GCC-4242N.

For the record, most of the Matshita drives can be made RPC1 using "MPatch". If you look in the long sticky thread at the RPC1 site Forums for MPatch, near the end is a downloadable ISO file that a Laptop repair guy has provided.

Be sure to check that all this applies to your specific model before using, and note that it voids warranties and a chance exists that it may even kill your drive.

Another option is using a program such as DVD Idle. It will buffer the DVD disc contents to memory or harddrive, as well as remove region encoding on-the-fly. It works with RPC2 drives too.

Actually neither MPatch or DVDIdle works for panasonic UJ-8x2 drives used in T4x.

Doesn't "Any DVD" also solve this problem without doing anything to the drive's firmware?

AnyDVD failed as well, at least for UJ-812. There is something special on the M a t s u s h i t a drives.

Mine has Hitachi written on it but LG and LG GCC-4242N written on it, so, I guess this would work?

DVDRegion+CSSFree (great name) by Fengtao software (also listed at RPC1.org) worked great on my M a t s u s h i t a drive as well as on the LG-4242n.

But you can watch and copy CSS encrypted DVD movies when the drive region and disc region is matched on these DVD drives.
