how durable is it? I have considered changing the color of my thinkpad but I am concerned that after a while the paint will chip and fall off.....

The red 701cs lid on that site really stands out. I wish the person would have put up a picture of the final product of that as well.

I am going to try and get me a LCD Cover for an X31.
And try if i can get to the same affect...

A translation is really needed tough ...

Or the TS can repley .... either way its fine with me. but i aint trying a thing before someone explains to me how this is done

Very cool site. I've been thinking about doing a piano look lid and wristrest on my T23 and was looking for something to see how it might look. I really wish I could read Korean though!

I'm actually considering trying something similar with my 600E as soon as my A21m arrives and I'll have time to set the 600E aside for a monet or two.

Don't worry too much, I'm going to make my desicision after I've found out whether or not the A21m is usable for full computing and after reading the HMM to see how many steps are involved in and how complex removal of the lid is. There's this one scratch running down the right side, deep in the rubber painting, that just bugs the hell outta me so if this won't be too much work to do on my laptop, I'm going to let that scratch be my excuse to strip the paint and try the piano finish.

If you've opened it to replace the MMC-2, you can most certainly remove the lid. Removing the LCD from the lid is a tad bit harder.

I was just kidding about the painting, unless of course you choose red.

I was actually thinking hot pink or sky blue. Or better yet, maybe I can take Lenovo's new silver lid idea for a cheap spin!

Nah, just kidding, I'm definitley going with black if I ever decide to try a painting project on the 600E.

For those who are in interested in reading that Korean site, you could use google translator to translate to English. It is not a perfect translation but it gives a pretty good idea of what was done.

Basically, the process is

1. Remove the LCD cover.
2. Clean it very thoroughly
3. Put primer. (Check the picture for the primer used)
4. Spray paint.
5. Clear coat.

It was done in a professional auto paintshop and that would be the only way to get it done properly.

I am sure you can also wax it once the paint is set. I would love to get it done in my X24 but I am not sure how much it would cost to get it done in a garage. If it something like $50 I would be very tempted to do it.

How easy or hard is it to get the paint on even and have the computer looking that way? How easily does it scratch or scuff?

From what I have been reading around the people who do it seriously they use equipments and materials used in a auto paintshop.

Basically, clean, primer, few coatings of spray paint, then hard clear coating asyou would do to paint a car. I am not sure if there is an easier way to do this at home by using spray can from hardware store. But my guess is that te finish may not be as good as professional finish.

As far as durability it would be similar to an automobile's paint job. That would mean it will scratch but it could be buffed and waxed like you would for a car.

Perhaps a project for this summer for my X24.

This reminds me of the S30 and the S31 that IBM had awhile back, nice patent piano black finish on them. Although they were meant for markets in Japan and the rest of Asia, like the PC110 and the X60s.

I was able to carefully remove the Logo from my 600E lid that it looks like I am going to have to repaint. Never in my working on Thinkpads have I seen a display cover look this bad and NOT be dented. It looks like someone poured acid on it. Anyway, it looks like I will be able to just simply place it back on the newly painted lid.

Now the next question....what color? Hmmm

Candy pink and baby blue!

Hmm, well, seriously, a dark mettalic grey or a metalic black would probably look pretty cool.

boulder parts operation should have the logo as part of a kit..

look through the HMM for the part number.. or FRU number..
