Tolerable to run X40 P1.4 on 256 MB of ram?

#1 Post by bonez318ti » Tue Nov 29, 2005 11:16 am

I just bought the X40, is it tolerable to run off of 256MB of ram for hte time being? I don't do anything intensive with my computer. Its mostly used for web surfing and word processing.

Was going to wait a few months for the prices of ram to drop.. is it worth it?

Yes, it is. You might want to turn off all unneccessary services and not load as many things at startup but in general it is quite usable for daily browsing, emailing and writing. There are lots of people out there who not only run their thinkpads with 256MB or ram but with much slower proccessors also. Althought 512 would be nice you can get away with 256 for quite some time.

search around, ram is cheap. you can get a single 1gb chip for around 110 shipped.

256 gets old quick, espically when you see how addicting your thinkpad will get

I'm waiting until they come down in price here. Current watching a Kingston 1GB chip which has been NZ$387 (plus 12.5% tax) for a month now. Sheesh! I wish we had US$100 chips. :)
