T42/T43 and 14/15 LCD questions.

#1 Post by gzt036 » Wed Nov 30, 2005 5:03 pm

1. How better is T42 than T43 in term of fan noise and heat produced? If you can measure, what's the temp. reading of CPU and GPU under normal use? (surfing, word ...) How frequently do you hear fan on?

2. How better is 15" flexview than 14.1 sxga+?

Thanks for your input on the above questions.

In terms of fan noise, I haven't heard that much of a difference in fan noise levels, the behavior does very somewhat though. Heat isn't an issue as far as I can tell since I have not felt a huge amount of heat being generated on either. I didn't check the temperature levels of the GPUs, though.

For me, I got the 14.1" Screen for the weight, and I get 1400x1050 which is more than enough for what I do. You can go higher on the 15" UXGA Screens though, that adds more weight. So it all depends on the screen you feel the most comfortable with. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

thanks for the discussion. I got a T43 with similar configuration as yours, 2.0G, 15" sxga+. I'm very satisfied with the machine except the fan noise and the heat. I really couldn't stand any fan level greater than level 1-2 for a long time. With the great FC software, the problem is partially solved, but the heat is building up inside the machine, and that's the source of the problem and there is no way I can do about it. I am seriously thinking to get an T42 instead.

I really love this 15" screen, even I can identify a struck pixel, that doens't bother me a little bit. By choosing T42, I probably have to give up this gorgeous 15" screen to get an 14" one. I just hope I won't be so disappointed to find in the same situation (noise and heat problem) again but with a downgraded T42 paid extra cash for.
