T42P dead after video ipod link to USB

#1 Post by johnworley » Thu Dec 01, 2005 5:07 pm

I have a t42p that I have used for over a year with no problems. I had to use a firewire card with my older Ipod, but was glad to be able to use USB on my brand new video Ipod. I was able to download my itunes library with no problem and even downloaded a few short video clips and then I plugged the Ipod back in to let it charge. I noticed that the Ipod did not seem to be getting power and then I realized the t42p had completely died and showed no signs of life. I removed the battery and tried my other power supply and then called tech support and was told to hold the power button down 10 times in a row and then on the 11th time to hold it down for 30 seconds. I did so (numerous times) to no avail and it looks as though it is down for the count and I will have to send it in to IBM. From this forum, there seems to be a theme of problems with Ipods and the USB port on this computer. I have never had any problems before and it seems to coincidental that is happened right as I plugged in the Ipod. At any rate, does anyone know of any other tricks to try to resurrect my laptop before I send it to IBM tommorrow.

Thanks

Well, it is a long shot...It could be, though, as if you had some really buggy memory. Most likely, though, the system board is toast. All that will happen in that case is the replacement of the system board. I have hooked up my iPod fine to my T43 and it charges fine. I have a similar story. I used to have an old HP ze5700 Series and plugged my iPod into it. I left it for awhile, then I came back...It was dead, and so was the iPod. That USB port didn't work after that; before that, it couldn't even do USB 2.0 and was still stuck at USB 1.0. It is possible, yes; probable, maybe not.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
