R31 LCD looking screwy

#1 Post by Des » Fri Dec 02, 2005 7:51 pm

On impulse I bought an R31 from a guy on EBay. The ad stated the LCD was good. Last night after the unit arrived I played with it a while and everything seemed to be fine. I let it sit and charge up over night.

This morning, however, I began noticing red dot patterns in horizontal bars across the screen. These dots sort of shift position as the mouse moved. If I moved the LCD cover up or back they would go away at ties or get worse. Is this an easy problem or a a piece of junk?

I emailed the seller this morning but so far no response (also the CD ROM drive doesn't work).

Thanks for your time.

Sounds like it could be a bad mainboard. Of course it might not be but that could account for the screen and CD problems.

The R40 I recently got had similar problems. I sent it back five days ago via Priority Mail but it hasn't been signed for yet at the receiving end. I'm about ready to dispute my PayPal charge.

I did try a different CD from a co-workers R30 today and that one did work.
I'm hoping the guy on ebay will make good on it.

OK, a few new things:
When the unit is plugged into AC the screen issue goes away.
I unplugged it and so far it hasn't come back yet.

Other thing I noticed is that when booting to Windows (XP) the start up sound 'warbles' some. All sounds afterwards are fine.

Sorry to keep posting on and on, but I am really frustrated by this and the guy from Ebay has'nt gotten back to me so far.

Thanks again.

Seller replaced it with another unit that works fine.
