X41 or X41T?
I would like to purchase a X series (not considering X32) and have narrowed down to X41 or X41T.
I see them about the same price range. I dont really have a use for tablet.
I like X41's smaller size and the two metal hinges makes it look sturdier.
My main question is: would you go for the X41T just for its better screen?

Who says X41T has a better screen? While it has a stronger backlight, it is also a bit less sharp, probably by nature of the digitizer that is a layer on top of all touch screens.
For a tablet the X41T has about the best screen I've yet laid eyes on, but compared to a regular 12" laptop like an X41, X32 or any other 1st-tier brand, I think you'll find the regular (non-touchscreen) models have a better picture.

At least to my eyes, the X41T has an excellent screen and I'd suggest you go for it and work with the tablet features.

the reason i thought the X41T has a better screen is because I read somewhere on this forum that the tablet screen is more like the 15'' flewview, hence I thought it's better than the normal X41's.asiafish wrote:Who says X41T has a better screen? Can I use everything as if it's a regular laptop? or do I have a learning curve for Windows Tablet Edition?dfumento wrote:At least to my eyes, the X41T has an excellent screen and I'd suggest you go for it and work with the tablet features.
I would really like to just pretend the tablet feature is not there most of the time.
Thanks

Yes, you can use it as a regular notebook and not worry about the tablet features.davidlg16 wrote: Can I use everything as if it's a regular laptop? or do I have a learning curve for Windows Tablet Edition?

Personally, I'm not a fan of Flexview and consider a regular screen to be better. I like privacy when working on my laptop and Flexview screens make that impossible. In addition, they use a lot of battery power and are slower in response, making DVD movies less enjoyable, at least to my eyes.davidlg16 wrote:the reason i thought the X41T has a better screen is because I read somewhere on this forum that the tablet screen is more like the 15'' flewview, hence I thought it's better than the normal X41's.asiafish wrote:Who says X41T has a better screen? I've used a 15" Flexview on a friend's T42 and while it was great for working with text and even better when working with another person at the same time, I'd not want to use one on an airplane, where I like to restrict the view of my neighbors and run as long as possible on battery power.

Yes, the X41T is akin Flexview, i.e. wide viewing angles, brighter, better colors (arguable).
IMO, Flexview beats a regular IBM screen into the ground so much that it's out of the question. Yeah, it does use more power (due to the extra brightness probably, not the features of the panel), but it's just so gorgeous. And you can just reduce the brightness a bit to save battery power.
The privacy thing is very stupid IMO. A non-Flexview screen will add zilch to your privacy, because the horizontal viewing angles are wide enough on the regular screens for everyone who wants to spy on you to be able to do it perfectly. It's the vertical angles that suck, leading to uneven brightness and color distortions.
As for slower response times and ghosting, that's arguable. Some see it, some don't. I suspect it might also depend on the actual panel used (there are two different SXGA+ panels that are called "Flexview", one made by IDTech, another one by LG. And I don't even know what goes in the UXGA department.)
I don't know the exact technology they use on the X41T screen, but I've seen it and the X41 regular screen and the X41T looked much better.
