Transfering Emails from Outlook, But

#1 Post by kuma » Sun Dec 04, 2005 10:02 pm

I unistalled Office from my old computer and then loaded it up on my new T42. But I forgot to copy my old emails from that computer. Is there a way to transfer those emails and address book from my old computer to my new one? Even if I have unistalled the program?

Thanks.

The file should still exist on your old computer as Outlook.pst or some other .pst file if you gave it a different name. ... JD Hurst

thanks. Should I just do a search for .pst files? Are those the emails or the addresses?

Yes, search for *.pst, incase your was named something else.

I believe that this should include your contacts as well. Although, I think that I read somewhere that you might lose information if your contacts are linked to journal entries.

Search for all .PST (and for good measure, .PAB) files. You'll most likely find it under c:\documents and settings\.

Unless you were using sExchagne server. ;)

This is one instance where a recent backup would save the day.

You need to search for *.pst (be sure to include the asterisk, not just .pst), and be sure to include hidden files and folders, and also system folders in the search, because outlook.pst is a hidden file.

What version of Outlook was on your old machine and what version is on the new machine?

Also, were you using Outlook to connect to an Exchange Server, or for POP/HTTP (Internet) e-mail?

I've never seen Outlook's .PST files hidden, but it doesn't hurt to search those.

Agreed, when you search for a type of file, use the * wildcard, if you didn't before. E.g., search for *.pst, *.pab.

Going from memory here.....isn't there also a .vcb or something like that for some contact files (vcard, I think)?

For Outlook, the files will be in Outlook.pst, which is located in C:\documents and settings\USERNAME\Applications\Microsoft\Outlook folder

For OutLook Express, the files will all be *.dbx.

vcf files are for contacts exported as vcards. Outlook address books are stored as .pab files and Outlook Express as .wab.
