T40 - 6 cell or 9 cell battery purchase...
Hey everyone!
I just purchased my first IBM T40 today. For $650 incl. taxes and shipping, I got the 2374-PU2 that is based on the 2374-75U.
Lastly - the battery on the T40 is getting low. I need a reputable source to get 6/9 cell batteries - can anyone recommend me a source? Is it worth going for the 9-cell upgrade (7200mah) for $100? Or just use the standard 6-cell (4400mah) for $50 or so?
Thanks so much!

Re: A Proud new T40 Owner. Any first steps?
I owned that machine up until this past summer and it was the best notebook I have ever used.
The first thing I would do is to make sure you start with all the original settings...if you bought it used. Then, if you're going to be connected to the Internet, get a firewall up and anti-virus loaded. And finally I would get the latest drivers off the IBM Web site.
Enjoy,
Lawrence

P M 1.5GHz
1GB RAM <-- upgrade for free
60GB 5400rpm HDD <-- also upgraded
14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD
32MB ATI Radeon 7500
16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD(slim)
Modem(CDC)
1Gb Ethernet(LOM)
Cisco 802.11b Wireless(MPCI)
Secure Chip(TCPA)
UltraNav
6 cell battery
WinXP Pro
It still has warranty until 9/2006, NBD on-site internationaly.
I personally think it's a great deal and I can finally get into IBM laptops.
Is there anything I should first do when I get it? Any special applications that I should install (or not install)?
Thanks so much!

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I would get a 9-Cell Battery for the system; it is really worth it. It does add some weight and expands the form factor somewhat, but it is a must-have, IMHO, if you are really mobile with your Thinkpad.
