t30 ultrabay device swapping

#1 Post by ellieilluminate » Mon Dec 05, 2005 11:14 pm

So, my T30 has in its unltrabay a cd/dvd rom w/ a fru p/n of 08k9648, the model of the device itself being sr-8176-m. My friends computer died and we started harvesting its parts (her concern was that she get her hard disk). Among these was a HL data storagec cd-rw/dvd drive she said I cold have, model gcc-4240n. Does anyone know if I put my friend's HL combo drive into the ultabay cradle, will it function? Will it fry my comp? Do I need to get drivers? I don't think so, as it is a model that IBM uses in its ultrabays, but I need confirmation, tips, etc.

Thanks to anyone who can help, I'm not a regular at this.

To clarify - the reason I'm most concerned is beause it came out of a diff brand of comp.

And as an add-on, is it possible to then swap the faceplates?
