A22m white screen problem

#1 Post by WhereMyArm » Tue Dec 06, 2005 8:24 am

I think the LCD may be dead, but it still lights up so I have a little hope. What's happening is when I boot up, the screen turns on (backlight comes on) and is greyish white, and nothing more. It flickers like it would when it boots, and it does boot just fine, (still outputs to a monitor just fine) but the screen is always white. Any way to fix it without sending it in for repair? I'm willing to open it.

Bump, anyone have any guesses at all? I just don't know what to do with this thing.

It sounds like your LCD cable may have come loose. Try downloading your Hardware Maintenance Manual to learn how to get to your LCD cable:

Yeah, the LCD cable couldbe loose or dead.

Then again it could be the board but it is more likely to be the cable.

Alright, well I stripped it all down and built it back up, no loose cables, same problem. If the LCD cable is shot, I don't supposed I could just order a new one could I? IBM wouldn't make it that easy, would they?

A little late to check this, but did you make sure that the cable that ataches to the BACK of the LCD panel itself was plugged in?

This is a much trickier than any other connection, as it requires removing the LCD from the cover casing.

Just trying to help save you the money of replacing the LCD, although if you were to replace JUST the LCD and not the entire top half, you would have to remove the LCD anyway.

Yeah while I was in there I unplugged and replugged that connection as well. Everything seems to be connected properly. I guess I'll just be surfing eBay for the right cable.

Just a quick update:

I bought a new LCD cable, same problem. It was refurbished off eBay, but I'm gonna trust that it in fact works. So I ordered the next part down the line, a new sub-card. It was only 5 dollars, so I figured why not. If this doesn't work, am I screwed into replacing the mainboard?

Same problem :( Is there anything else that could be wrong besides the motherboard? I'm desperate here, since it's not really worth finding a new one.
