Does R50e have fan noise issues?

#1 Post by denthorq » Tue Dec 06, 2005 11:41 am

I'm ordering a R50e 14" laptop and I want to know if this is as noisy as T43s?

I need a reply asap, I want it badly before the holiday ;-)

Thanks.

Mine spins up every few minutes. It's not that loud but it's just frequent. I'm getting a P-M one of these days to replace the C-M though, and I do plan to undervolt.

How frequent it is?

Like every how many minutes?

Is it as loud as the boot up fan or T43?

What's is your room temperature?

Would you recommend this Model (R50e 14" Celeron)?

I'll be sending this in ASIA so I'm expecting a 90+ degres Fahr. Thanks for your reply.

Is it as loud as the boot up fan or T43? Thankfully it isn't very loud. Much quieter than on bootup.

What's is your room temperature? I'm in a dorm room thermometerless, but I'll say about 75 or 80F.

Would you recommend this Model (R50e 14" Celeron)? Yes, but only if you a) don't need to have a dvd drive or burner with you (you can get an external to leave at your desk), b) are willing to do your own upgrades. #1 on that list would be to upgrade from 256 ram to 768. I think the promo for 512 free ram is still going on. From there on out, you can upgrade the CPU, hard disk, etc as you see fit. All in all, even after some upgrades I'll have a sweet 14.1" thinkpad for under 750.

I think this is really good because the build material feels quite solid, like your typical thinkpad, and because T's are expensive while 14.1" R's don't seem very common. For me, the 14.1" size is great: very portable while still very functional, with the full-size keyboard and all.
