Please help: How to bypass the bios setup on T43

#1 Post by tatuvaaj » Tue Dec 06, 2005 3:34 pm

Hello!

I have a T43 computer that has a administrator password setup by our IT support (and I have no idea what it is...).

Computer also has a HDD password that I know.

I pressed the "Access IBM" key during the startup just to test it (ouch!) and after it asked and accepted the HDD password it naturally asked the BIOS password - at this point I just restarted the computer.

Well, now it just keeps asking me the BIOS setup password everytime I start the computer and I can't boot to Windows!

Does anyone know how to tell the stupid computer I really don't want to go to BIOS setup during the startup?

Thank you very much in advance!

Go to IT support and have them fix it. You can't do it unless you want to buy a new system board.

Thanks, I'll do that (it's night here in Finland and I really needed the computer before morning but what can you do...)

I wish someone will fix this in the upcoming BIOS versions: just let the user to press ESC to continue to boot when waiting for BIOS setup password (sigh)...

I'm sure that this is a security feature, so that if the laptop is stolen and someone tries to modify the laptop, it will lock them out, causing them to replace the motherboard.

Those passwords are indeed security features and cannot be by passed without replacing the motherboard.

I once sold a Thinkpad and forgot to disable the bios password. Needless to say, the buyer wasn't too happy when he called a few days later because I didn't tell him about it!
