T43 BSOD after upgrading embedded controller and ATI driver

#1 Post by firefly » Wed Dec 07, 2005 10:00 pm

My T43 2668-HH5 has been running smoothly until I decided to upgrade embedded controller and ATI driver, after which I’m getting random BSOD reporting lsass.com and memory dump error.

The only upgrade I have is an additional stick of 512mb RAM (came from another T43), which was done 3 months ago. I ran Prime95 right after the upgrade for 10+ hrs without any error so I don’t think memory conflict is the culprit here.

However if I remove the second stick of 512mb everything goes back to normal. Is it possible the new embedded controller firmware and ATI driver doesn’t play well when the second stick is present?

Possible, but then again, I have an extra stick of 512MB Memory in mine totaling to 1GB. What are you doing when this BSOD occurs? :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

It varies. The BSOD can happen as soon as I get pass the login screen, even before my desktop/starup apps finish loading. Sometimes it doesn't happen until I start using IE. Can also happen if I leave it on for long enough idling at the login screen.

I'd check to see if that RAM is bad.

Ha, the new ATI driver is said to eliminate BSOD, n'est-ce pas? Me, I'd try rolling back to the previous ATI driver and see what happens. I upgraded BIOS and embedded controller a week ago, and have no complaints.

Did you update the bios as well as the embedded controller? If not, I'd try that first, then start rolling stuff back.

I just updated the EC and bios and have had no problems (though they also made absolutely no difference to the fan issue).
