R40 mainboard question

In addition to my previous post about swapping a hard drive I have dissassembled the think pad again. and have 2 questions.

1. It makes a clicking sound from one of the 2 large pieces on the mainboard with the copper wire on them. any clue if I could try bridging anything to get it to boot up.

2. the think pad is a 2684 KAU w/ a 14 in screen, If I got one w/ a 13 in screen could I swap the screen out??
