Battery and Suspend (moon) light / LED are always off

#1 Post by michal » Thu Dec 08, 2005 1:48 pm

I have a A30 that I've found lying on some pile of computer garbage. Laptop died when I've plugged the power adapter. I've replaced the motherboard, but the battery and suspend (moon) LED lights located on the LCD's cover don't work at all. Any idea what would the reason be?

It could be a software problem. My W2K factory refurbished T23 has presented some goofy problems since I bought it last month. So far, all have proven to be software problems. First, driver problems, now other software failures.

I experimented with the trackpoint middle button three days ago. First, I suddenly had a left arrow key that would not work. I fixed that by restart, running System Mechanic registry maintenance and Win system repair, followed by a full shut down. Then, I noticed my LED light panel no longer works. I figure going to the support site and running the auto detect, download, and install program run will replace whatever IBM problem or driver crashed. You might find the solution in doing the same.

The battery LED should work no matter what OS is being used. This LED should also work when battery is being charged and the laptop is off.

My first guess was that it's hardware's fault. But if battery charging works, then perhaps it’s the firmware. I've figured I could use some input before I will start pulling this laptop apart again.

Might sound strange, but since you found it in the trash, it might have gotten wet and blown the LEDs themselves.

As I suspected, I got my battery LED working again by running System Mechanic. At least on my T23 system messing around with the IBM key utility, particularly the big trackpoint button, can cause all sorts of strange malfunctions.

I had to full memory flush, run System Mechanic registry repair to get my left arrow key working again and I had to make further system repairs to get my power LED panel lights back. I uninstalled the *#$ IBM utility.
