Weird Blank taskbar window
Weird Blank taskbar window
Anyone have this thing that looks like a empty window show up on the task bar for like 1 second every half an hour or something like that. It's noticable if you put the computer to display off and it turns bakc on. Or if you're wathcing a movie or something.

Sounds like you have a program running in the background, that isn't there long enough to be identified in the taskbar window.
You could try watching your Processes in the Task Manager, for when it happens, since it happens pretty regularly. If you determine what it is, you could try to shut down the process and see if it effects your system. Although, you might want to research any of the odd process that run at the time of the empty window, BEFORE you stop them.

You could check Event Viewer for events that recur every half hour or so. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer.
You can check in Scheduled Tasks for any tasks scheduled to run every half hour or so. Go to Start > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks.
Do spyware and virus scans to make sure you don't have any infections.

it doesn't even occur every half hour regularily. or maybe I don't notice. Also it happens most when the comptuer is idle I think, or at least I just notice then. Like at night when I set hte display off- it'll turn it back on :@
spyware/anti-virus checked. would think it's just me but the other t42 which is much newer and lightly configed does the same.
I checked that thing but it doens't list anything. I checked just after it occured wondering if it catches that. I also tried installing a window/app logger but of course it doens't open a window or app apaprently so it didn't get caught!

Depending on your OS, run MSCONFIG in the Start | Run box, examine what you starting up.... Sounds like you have SOMETHING that is on a 30 minute "wake up" cycle.
Nothing in Scheduled Tasks, I presume?
If you run a third party firewall (like McAFee, Symantec), do the logs show any activity on the same cycle?
